The clear cost of every hour

Staying clean, & now I’m outside
Her strange ways
were so beautiful in

Lockets of silver worn
Pockets lined yet torn
We know all the animals
Cages washed in scorn
Chains of gold, they fear
My tired feet once there
Walked with other animals
Cages on each stair.

Through the emptiness of daytimes

When I find her in nights’ corner
Arrow straight, straight through my soul
Here I wait, in complex rhetorical
A new beginning

By light gives back my losses
City days on homeless streets
I walk past each tired doorway

& that’s a good thing
